Molly, I like the idea of this. It needs a bit of editing, I think, to tighten. I'm not as fond of revolution in retrospect. The photos aren't very revolutionary. But we can talk about that. I'm going to go find my Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young CD ( I might have even had a long-playing record of that) and think about it.

As much as I do appreciate that a place like Film Streams opened in Omaha, the article does certainly make people in Omaha sound a little like "uncultured" country bumpkins. Considering I grew up in Iowa (which may receive even more "everyone lives on a farm stereotypes" than Nebraska) I must really be struggling. Yet, as many people who "get it" that I do know in Omaha and Dubuque I am sure there are some people like she described out there (especially in Dubuque, which isn't what this article is about at all, but it's my frame of reference)......

Nonetheless knowing how much you love Omaha I can't say I blame you for being a little pissed by how the article portrayed Omahans.

Molly, you bring up a great point. And sometimes I don't do this as much as I should -- give students time to decompress/ to debrief/ to share what they are feeling about what they are learning and talking about in class. It would be overwhelming to have that happen in a string of classes. Much like the best journalism, I realize that I have to try to come up with ways to help people figure out solutions to some of these problems. Sometimes we just have to be a witness, that we care about what happens to other people, that we will try to make a difference.

I'm not quite the Facebook maven many people are. I tend to be amazed that people would use that kind of language ( I guess my age is showing) and that they would reveal so much about themselves on a Web site.

But it's important to track these sites. I do believe the social networking sites will become a source for news.

Molly, my favorite qoute was "We should be unpopular."

Does that remind you of a certain opinion section?

Molly, I'm so glad you liked it so much. I, too, found the experience really energizing. That's what I hope every student feels about journalism, about reporting. And it's all about people.

It should be really interesting to see what the turnout is like. I do see a lot of excitement about it, but, of course, the caucuses for many people interfere with kids' activities and sleep! It does make such a difference to have the caucus, to have the candidates here.

Molly, this all sounds great. We'll have to focus, but I like the ideas. Dr. Wirth might be able to help you find some people. While she's not that much older than me, she worked with some people who probably were active then. A q and a would be good. And we have to figure out how to use music. One book you might want to check out is Todd Gitlin's "The Whole World is Watching." It's about the 1960s, but it's also about media and the 1960s.
